Currently, 75% of Europe’s population lives in urban areas. City environments — including air and noise pollution, limited green space, traffic, and climatic conditions — have a direct impact on residents’ health. Children, older people, individuals with chronic diseases, and those facing socio-economic inequalities are particularly vulnerable. The accelerating climate crisis further amplifies these risks, leading to more frequent and extreme weather events.

A new infographic published by the EU-funded UBDPolicy research project, in which HEAL is a partner, summarises the health impacts of urban environments. It presents the latest information on how these environmental stressors concretely affect people’s health. The full infographic is available in EN, BG, NL, ES, FR, and PL.
